Workmanship Warranty - Midwest Solar Power offers a 5 year workmanship warranty Solar Panel Warranty - Most solar panels offer a 25 year power production guarantee Inverter Warranty - Most inverters have at least a 12 year warranty, with an optional upgrade to 25 years. Some come standard with a 25 year warranty Optimizer Warranty - Most optimizers have a 25 year warranty. It’s important to note that, once you are outside of our 5 year workmanship warranty, there may be labor costs associated with Midwest Solar Power coming out to replace a component, even if it is still under the manufacturer warranty.
  • Does Midwest Solar Power sell solar equipment?
Midwest Solar Power is a full service contractor. That means that we take care of every step in the solar installation process. We do not sell equipment directly to consumers. We start with an accurate design based on your home, the roof condition and pitch, the electrical usage and service interconnection as well as your budget and goals.
  • How will Midwest Solar Power choose the right size solar system for me?
Our standard design philosophy is to design a solar system that produces as much electricity in one year as you are using in one year. Alternatively, designs can be based on budget limitations or customer preference. We are happy to work with you to design a system that meets both your current and future needs.
  • How long is a solar system designed to last?
Solar systems are designed to last at least 25 years.
  • Do solar panels provide backup power in the event of a grid outage?
A standard grid tied system will not provide backup power in the event of a grid outage. In order to have backup power you will need to install a battery backup system as part of your solar install. However . . .
  • Does Midwest Solar Power install battery based systems?
Midwest Solar Power does not install battery based systems at this time. Battery technology is still changing rapidly and is quite costly relative to the benefit that it provides. We think that batteries are an important part of the future of solar installations so we are always vetting new battery equipment for future implementation. Most systems that we currently design are compatible with adding batteries in the future.
  • How can I make sure that I’m getting a good deal on solar?
The best way to make sure that you are getting a good deal on any home improvement project, such as solar, is to get multiple quotes from reputable contractors that have a proven track record in the area.
  • What kinds of financial incentives are available for solar in Wisconsin?
Focus On Energy Rebate - A rebate available to customers whose solar arrays have less than 15% shading. Most people can expect a $300 rebate through Focus On Energy for getting solar installed on their property, while customers in eligible rural zip codes can receive up to $600. Commercial customers and agricultural producers can also expect even greater rebate amounts. Midwest Solar Power will take care of applying for this rebate on the customer’s behalf. 30% Federal Tax Credit- A 30% tax credit that is available to customers with sufficient tax liabilities. While most customers are able to make use of this tax credit, a tax consultant should be able to determine a customer’s eligibility for this tax credit. The customer and/or their tax consultant are responsible for applying for this credit. No Sales Tax On Systems - Solar PV projects are exempt from state sales taxes. Property taxes cannot be increased based on a solar system installation. REAP grant for rural farmers - Agricultural producers who have at least 50% of their income come from sales of those products and rural small businesses are eligible for the Rural Energy for America Program Grant, which can cover up to 50% of the cost of a solar PV installation. Midwest Solar Power can assist the customer in applying for and securing this grant.
  • Does Midwest Solar Power offer financing?
Midwest Solar power is able to help you connect with Greenpenny which specializes in solar and energy retrofit lending. Working with Greenpenny allows us to focus on building the best quality systems for our customers at the best overall price.
  • How long does it take for a solar system to pay for itself?
We find that for most residential customers, it takes about 10 years for the solar system to pay for itself, but the payback period can be longer or shorter depending on the utility, system size/design, and other site specific factors. Solar systems can be viewed as a hedge against rising utility costs; the faster electric rates rise in the future, the more quickly your solar system will pay for itself.
  • Once I install solar, will my electric bill go down to $0?
No. Solar can offset the ‘usage’ portion of your bill, which is directly proportional to your electrical usage. However, there are other fees on your bill, such as a fixed charge, taxes, and a low income assistance fee among other things. While your electric bill will be drastically reduced by going solar, it is unlikely that it will ever be zero. Understanding exactly how solar will affect your bill varies by utility and can be confusing to understand. Please give us a call (608-354-2063) if you have any questions and we’ll be happy to walk you through it.
  • What kind of maintenance do solar panels require?
Solar systems are designed to be as maintenance free as possible. When we design our systems, we anticipate that snow will not be manually cleared from the panels during the winter. The most important maintenance you can do is to check your solar production on your solar monitoring portal (included as part of any installation) at least once a month, and give us a call if any error messages pop up.
